Truth be told, gay marriage has been sanctioned in nine States in America. Being a piece of the Christian people group, we really differ to this for it is a wrongdoing as we consider it and we don't need to reconsider in negating this point. Be that as it may, it doesnââ¬â¢t hurt to speak a little about this. Same-sex marriage will be authorized is most nations sometime in the not so distant future. The inescapable are being delayed by the ages who go before us and oversee our territories. A great deal of youngsters don't understand the tremendousness, all things considered, We heard many individuals state that they acknowledge homosexuality, however that they donââ¬â¢t believe that the entire ââ¬Å"marriageâ⬠thing is significant.. Indeed, it clearly is. Since when marriage occurs, the things on an individual level are not simply the ones influenced. Oneââ¬â¢s fund, future, status, protection, contract, thus a lot more will likewise be influenced. In the event that the legislature doesn't perceive your equivalent sex accomplice as your better half/spouse, a great deal of confounded circumstances, as far as desk work and equity, will emerge. Also, thatââ¬â¢s why we think it should be legitimized. ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Jesus never let out the slightest peep about homosexuality. In the entirety of his lessons about various things â⬠he never said that gay individuals ought to be censured. I for one think it is fine for gay individuals to be hitched in common ceremonies.ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ â⬠Jimmy Carter. Love has no limits, they state. In any case, when alluding to cherish, does that mean the friendship between a man and a lady or the love between two people, in any case the sexuality? By and by, we think, the word ââ¬Ësexualityââ¬â¢ from the expression ââ¬Ëregardless the sexualityââ¬â¢ can be alluded as a limit from the statement ââ¬Ëââ¬â¢Love has no boundaries,ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬â¢ â⬠which ought not be a prevention in discovering genuine romance. Picture a x-beam photo of two skeletons indicating fondness by kissing. The second you take a gander at it, you are gradually being bewildered by the interest on the off chance that it is a young lady and a kid, a kid and a kid, a young lady and a young lady, or even a dark man and a white lady. Simply the effortlessness of the association and the magnificence of the two individuals sharing affection is all that should matter. Love wins underneath such skin. Notwithstanding, the establishment of marriage has generally been characterized as between a man and a lady. It is accepted that marriage is the association of man and lady, particularly including the reproduction and raising of youngsters inside a family. Legitimizing same-sex marriage would debilitate the regard for the genuine meaning of marriage. The legitimateness of marriage has been experiencing a couple of irregularities â⬠having different spouses; being alright of wedding your own family members; the most recent contention, same-sex marriage; and possibly sooner rather than later, the sanctioning of wedding a creature. In the event that equivalent sex marriage is to be affirmed, it will just beginning a chain response which will in the end ruin the quintessence of marriage. Another weakness would be carried on as a weight and humiliation by their kid, and an affront menaces can use against them. That is, if at any point a gay family anticipates receiving their own youngster. The kid will have such a large number of inquiries â⬠why he has two dads or possibly why he has two moms, why he doesn't have an ordinary family. Regardless of how careful and justifiable their clarification is, if the youngster sees a typical family makes: a mother, a dad, and a kid, and he/she knows that solitary a man and a lady can hold up under kids, at that point interest and disarray will simply hit their kid harder. Being a piece of the Christian people group, we accept that marriage is for people and fellowship is for two people of a similar sexuality. Truly, adoring a similar sexual orientation doesn't hurt anybody, yet it simply doesn't engage the way of life we have learned and have been educated. God has made lady for man, and man for lady. Standing to His standard is a demonstration of evil. Marriage is of the seven holy observances Catholic Church. It isn't something an individual can simply design the day preceding and do the following day. It is very much idea and arranged for. For this is a responsibility not exclusively to your accomplice yet additionally to God. Fundamentally, we affirm of gay connections yet not gay marriage. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-10007338649491558382020-08-22T02:09:00.001-07:002020-08-22T02:09:28.382-07:0085 Synonyms for House85 Synonyms for House 85 Synonyms for ââ¬Å"Houseâ⬠85 Synonyms for ââ¬Å"Houseâ⬠By Mark Nichol A broad jargon exists to depict all the potential varieties in the structures in which people live. That being said, the life I lived off Kismet Parkway where Iâd ride down the block on my bike, wave hi to my aunt, and return back to my front door where Iâd scream, âMA, ITâS ME! OPEN THE DOOR,â so I could get back inside for a home-cooked meal, seems so long ago. In reality, it has been three months-ish since I got on campus over the summer. For just about everyone, the change is sudden and doesnât even necessarily hit you completely until youâre here in a dorm, in a town youâve only been to during CPW (the preview weekend in April), and on your own doing adult things. At a school like MIT, people are from around the globe, so I know I am not alone in feeling this. It never truly hit my until just a few weeks ago when my sister and mom finally got the chance to visit for a weekend. Thursday, on September 14th, I got a text from my sister saying the plane had landed at Logan. The whole week prior was us saying prayers that flights didnât get cancelled because Hurricane Irma was around that we feared would cause delays or cancellations. Thank god, the planes assumed regular schedule just the day before their flight! Anyways, I was sitting in a biology recitation, and I knew I only had a class after this before I could ride my bike to the place they were staying and finally see them again! Immediately, it felt like I had never left. I read in an article that found some individuals found it difficult reconnecting with their families after being away, but I definitely did not share that sentiment. It was like I was back home again around them; joking around, teasing one another, and constantly looking for places to eat. To be fair, I call my mom just about every night to update her on what major I now am looking at (It literally changes daily), adventure I had taken into a new area of Boston, or just to talk about the daily routine after my work is done for the night. It was definitely the most exciting weekend I have had thus far here at MIT. Thursday, we headed to Quincy Market in the heart of Boston, where I had been explaining for weeks the assortment of foods one can get there that my family couldnât wait to try. That weekend, we went to the North End for my momâs birthday dinner, which kind of was an early birthday dinner for me as well, I showed them Newbury Street, the Prudential Center, and some of the areas of Cambridge that are my favorite places to walk around or visit. MIT is quite literally in the perfect place to have too many things to do around off-campus and having too little of time to check them all off the list. We ate Mikeâs Pastrys, Bovaâs Bakery, and Shrimp Cocktail from Eataly. We got stuck on our bikes in a thunderstorm where we took to a revolving door at a biotech company for shelter, screamed as a car splashed a puddle on us, and stood around a getting a ring on a peg game on State Street for a solid fifteen mi nutes of intense competition. I took them sailing, where we didnât capsize! (definitely was nervous it was going to happen since this would be my first time taking others out) In full, I got to show them what my new life was here. I showed them the lecture halls I go to, the best and worst dining halls on campus, the places I study, the places I relax, and the things I do now in an environment far from home. MIT can offer you everything in terms of academics. I could not ask for more. I am learning more than I ever have, and I am more excited to see what I will learn next. However, I believe thereâs another part of everyone that canât be pushed aside. It comes from the family and friends you truly can be yourself around that you knew before coming to this nerd paradise. Being far from your family sucks. Separating from your high school friends is never easy either as everyone goes on different paths for college. Itâs the greatest thing ever when they can come visit, and it gives you something to look forward to outside of the schoolwork which can seem at times nonstop. The week before they came, I was working double time, so I would not have to work while they were here for the weekend! As of last week, they just confirmed tickets to come up here for another weekend around Thanksgiving! I am definitely looking forward to that! Until then, find me walking down dorm row on the phone with my mom at ten at night ranting about either food, bugs in my code that I canât find, or the latest book I am reading. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-56738404678771261172020-05-22T06:02:00.001-07:002020-05-22T06:02:05.068-07:00Analysis Of Graham Norton s The Television Industry The word genre has different meaning to different people. Lealand and Martin (2001) explain how ââ¬Å"the television industry uses the term to categories and identify the various parts of its programming mix. The audiences use it to identify and choose their viewing preferencesâ⬠(p. 59). The Graham Norton Show comes under the genre of a celebrity talk show, but holds its own comedic spin. Norton creates uniqueness to the show through the way he cracks jokes and interacts with his audience and guests. The show begins with a witty introductory monologue of who will be on the show, then moves into the classic couch interviews, and finishes with a celebrity music performance, conventions that all fit with the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy Shattuc, 2008). The show focuses largely on the guests and their lives, along with promoting what they are currently involved in, relating it back to the purpose of the talk show genre (Miller, Boddy Shattuc, 2008). A subcategory of this gen re is a late night celebrity talk show, which The Graham Norton Show can also come under. According to Timberg, Bernard and Robert (2010), ââ¬Å"the late night version is based on congenial, playful encounters between guests and the host, who is more often then not a singer or comedianâ⬠(p. 7). This subcategory became popular on television in the 1950s, and increased in popularity thanks to shows such as The Tonight Show (Timberg, Bernard and Robert, 2010). Upper limb shudder is defined as the rhythmical, nonvoluntary agitating motion happening at any parts of the upper appendage such as shoulder, cubitus, carpus or fingers ( Deuschl et al. , 1998 ; Siresena, 2009 ) . The happening of shudder during task public presentation can be badly disenabling. We will write a custom essay sample on Study Into Upper Limb Tremor Health And Social Care Essay or any similar topic only for you Order Now Patients may hold important physical damage ( Feys et al. , 2003 ; Heroux et al. , 2006 ; Louis et al. , 2001 ) and a markedly decrease quality of life due to quake ( Louis A ; Rios, 2009 ; Nguyen et al. , 2007 ) . Burdening schemes are widely recommended to cut down shudder. Occupational therapy text edition ( Pedretti A ; Early, 2001 ; Radomski A ; Trombly, 2008 ) suggest the usage of leaden utensils and leaden carpus turnups to ease public presentation in day-to-day life undertakings. Leaden contraptions are besides commercially available for people with upper limb shudder regardless of their types. Despite the broad acknowledgment of burdening schemes to relieve shudder, there is presently no systematic grounds to back up the usage these schemes as effectual methods to cut down shudder. Therefore, the concern of this systematic reappraisal was to underscore the effects of burdening schemes on people with different types of upper limb shudder basically for occupational therapy service suppliers. CLASSIFICATIONS OF TREMOR Harmonizing to the Movement Disorder Society, shudder may attest in two different conditions ; remainder and action ( Deuschl et al. , 1998 ) . Tremor which occurs in a organic structure portion that is non supported against gravitation and non voluntarily activated is called remainder shudder while action shudder refers to any sort of shudder that is produced by voluntary contraction of musculuss looking during the public presentation of an activity ( Deuschl et al. , 1998 ; Jankovic A ; Fahn, 1980 ) . Action shudder which consists of postural shudder, kinetic shudder and isometric shudder ( Table 1 ) may besides look on both sides of the organic structure or one-sidedly. The visual aspect of shudder can be described by its frequence ; either it is low ( lt ; 4 Hz ) , medium ( 4-7 Hz ) or high ( gt ; 7 Hz ) . Table 1: Definitions of Action Tremor Postural shudder Tremor which is produced while keeping a place against gravitation. Kinetic shudder Tremor which occurs during any voluntary motion. 2.1 Simple kinetic shudder Kinetic shudder which occurs during voluntary motions that is non target-directed. 2.2 Intention shudder Kinetic shudder which occurs during visually guided motions where the amplitude of shudder additions towards the terminal of motion. 2.3 Task-specific shudder Kinetic shudder that appears during specific activities. Isometric shudder Tremor which occurs as a consequence of musculus contraction against a stiff stationary object. Tremor can besides be addressed diagnostically harmonizing to specific syndromes. Harmonizing to Deuschl et Al. ( 1998 ) , the syndromic categorization of shudder is the footing for farther probe and curative processs. Twelve classs have been suggested ; physiologic shudder, enhanced physiologic shudder syndrome, indispensable shudder syndromes, dystonic shudder syndromes, parkinsonian shudder syndromes, cerebellar shudder syndromes, Holmes ââ¬Ë shudder, palatine shudder syndrome, drug-induced and toxic shudder syndromes, shudder syndromes in peripheral neuropathy, psychogenetic shudder and unclassified shudders ( Table 2 ) . Table 2: Syndromic categorization of shudder Physiologic shudder Tremor which is present in every normal topic and every articulation or musculus that is free to hover. Enhanced physiologic shudder syndrome Easy visibleness of shudder, chiefly postural and high frequence. No grounds of underlying neurologic disease ; the cause of shudder is normally reversible Essential shudder syndromes Bilateral, mostly symmetrical postural or kinetic shudder affecting custodies and forearms that is seeable and relentless. Dystonic shudder syndromes Tremor in a organic structure portion affected by dystonia. Parkinsonian shudder Syndromes Pathologic shudder in patients with Parkinson ââ¬Ës disease with bradykinesia. Cerebellar shudder syndromes Pure or dominant purpose shudder, one-sided or bilateral. Holmes ââ¬Ë shudder Rest and purpose shudder with sometimes irregular presentation. Palatal shudder syndromes Rhythmical motions of the soft roof of the mouth. Drug-induced and toxic shudder syndromes Tremor occurs in a sensible time-frame following drug consumption or poisoning. Tremor syndromes in peripheral neuropathy Tremor develops in association with a peripheral neuropathy Psychogenic shudder Tremor which its amplitude lessenings during distraction. Unclassified shudder Tremor which can non be classified. CAUSES OF TREMOR Despite assorted categorizations of shudder have been established, the causes of shudder remain unknown. Tremor is frequently described to tie in certain diseases including familial diseases such as Parkinson ââ¬Ës disease and besides metabolic diseases ( e.g. thyrotoxicosis ) . These conditions are frequently accompanied by the happening of one or more phenomenon of shudder to certain organic structure parts ( Jankovic A ; Fahn, 1980 ) . Besides, shudder is normally seen in people with intellectual diseases such as multiple induration ( Alusi et al. , 2001 ; Koch et al. , 2007 ) every bit good as in peripheral neuropathies patients ( e.g. Guillain-Barre syndrome ) where postural shudder normally manifests. Tremor may besides happen in people with idiopathic diseases and sometimes look due to other external and internal factors such as drugs and intoxicant consumption ( Deuschl et al. , 1998 ) . Badness of shudder may besides be increased due to factors such as anxiousness, empha sis, weariness, hungriness, febrility or excessively much of caffeine consumption ( Bear et al. , 2006 ) . THE IMPACT OF UPPER LIMB TREMOR Most of the undertakings in day-to-day lives require complex manus use. Upper limb action shudder has proven to be more interfering in day-to-day life activities because it is activated by motion ( Feys et al. , 2003 ; Heroux et al. , 2006 ; Louis et al. , 2001 ) and may look bilaterally or one-sidedly. Harmonizing to a cross-sectional survey conducted by Feys et Al. ( 2003 ) , upper appendage shudder of their 32 multiple induration respondents was perceived to interfere their day-to-day life activities peculiarly in undertakings necessitating all right motor accomplishments such as feeding, imbibing, personal hygiene and written communicating. These findings were elicited from both standardized observations of 16 points in Functional Independence Measure ( FIM ) and a structured interview necessitating the participants to rate the degree of intervention of shudder in the FIM points, shaving or using make-up, picking up a pen, handwriting, runing a distant control, family and leisure activities. A larger figure of participants have been utilised in the survey by Louis and his co-workers ââ¬Ë ( 2001 ) to determine the impact of indispensable shudder towards functional disablement by utilizing a disablement questionnaire. In this survey, 85 per centum ( 76 respondents ) of the 89 respondents have reported disablement on more than one point on the questionnaire ( Louis et al. , 2001 ) . However, the relationship between disablement and upper limb shudder in both aforesaid surveies was non really clear because other symptoms of multiple induration may besides act upon the degree of independency in day-to-day life accomplishments. A descriptive case-series survey conducted by Heroux and his co-workers ( 2006 ) to 30 participants with indispensable shudder has besides described disablement in relation to upper limb shudder from another dimension. The survey was designed to find the extent of disablement in the survey population by utilizing time-based, standardized steps of upper appendage map ( Heroux et al. , 2006 ) . Significant differences have been determined between the topics with indispensable shudder in comparing to 28 healthy controls in different degrees of all right pinch clasp, gross grasping, object transit, and preciseness arrangement undertakings supplying a better grounds of the impact of upper limb shudder on manus use undertakings. In drumhead, the extent of disablement is high for people with upper limb shudder in conformity to activities of day-to-day life undertakings and manus use undertakings. This may hold a negative impact on quality of life and self esteem of an single and require extreme attending. Therefore, this survey focuses on shudder that occurs on the upper appendage during public presentation of undertakings ( postural and intention shudder ) . SIGNIFICANCE OF UPPER LIMB TREMOR The intervention effects in this survey were observed merely on upper limb postural and purpose shudders based these grounds: The gilded criterion of categorization of shudder is clinical categorization ( Deuschl et al. , 1998 ) . Disabling pathological shudders of the upper limb manifested largely by postural and intention shudders ; indispensable shudder syndromes ( postural and intention shudder ) , parkinsonian shudder syndromes ( remainder and postural shudder ) , and cerebellar shudder syndromes ( purpose shudder ) . Handss are the most common site for shudder to attest ( Siresena, 2009 ) . Subsequently, the prevalence of upper limb shudder is presumptively high as indispensable shudder is found to be as one of the most common neurological motion upsets ( Louis, 2005 ) and upper appendage shudder is reported to happen in approximately one tierce of patients holding multiple induration ( Alusi et al. , 1999 ) . The act of keeping manus place against gravitation and executing target-directed motions utilizing the custodies are of import in undertaking completion, therefore shudder happening at these phases have a major impact of functional public presentation and leads to disablement in the battle of activity ( Feys et al. , 2003 ; Heroux et al. , 2006 ; Louis et al. , 2001 ) . The findings are extremely of import and relevant to occupational therapy. LITERATURE REVIEW The intent of this subdivision is to reexamine the primary literature relevant to upper limb shudder. Literature of the bing processs used to cut down shudder, burdening schemes, methods to mensurate shudder, taking to the intent and aims of this systematic reappraisal will be reviewed. OTHER EXISTING PROCEDURES Primary literature was reviewed to seek for other bing processs normally used to handle upper limb shudder besides burdening schemes. From the hunt, it can be assumed that the major intervention end of upper limb shudder is to minimise functional disablement and better quality of life. Treatment methods available include pharmacotherapy, and surgical processs. In some patients, indispensable shudder can be partly suppressed by medicine. Diagnostic drug intervention is tailored harmonizing to the types of shudder ( Charles et al. , 1999 ) . For illustration, parkinsonian shudder requires the effects of drug from combination of L-dopa and carbidopa to stamp down shudder. On the other manus, indispensable shudder may be relieved by propranolol or Mysoline while isioniazid may be utile in handling cerebellar shudder associated with multiple induration. Similarly, propranolol may command intoxicant backdown shudder while clonazepam may cut down orthostatic shudder. Although drugs may cut down shudder continuity, the effects on shudder is normally impermanent and accompanied by side effects. In a non-randomized, comparative survey of 25 patients who received long-acting propranolol 80-160 mg/day and 25 who received primidone 50-250 milligram at bedtime. Approximately 10 per centum of the patients experienced short-run side effects ( faint and bradycardia ) and 20 per centum of them experienced long-run side effects ( bradycardia, weariness, and erectile disfunction ) that required discontinuance of therapy ( Koller et al. , 1989 ) . Alternatively, surgical methods such as thalamotomy and deep encephalon stimulation are normally considered in terrible instances where primary drug therapy fails to command the happening of shudder ( Chan A ; Swope, 2003 ) . Thalamotomy is a surgical technique based on theories that lesion in ventralis intermedius karyon of the thalamus will interrupt shudder activity. Thalamotomies are normally performed to one side of the encephalon which is contralateral to the badly affected limb. The efficaciousness of one-sided thalamotomy is high, with more than 80 % of patients sing durable suppression of shudder ( Schuurman et al. , 2000 ) . However, uncomplete lesioning of the ventralis intermedius will ensue in mild residuary shudder or re-emergence of shudder. On the other manus, the most recent surgical attack, deep encephalon stimulation ( DBS ) besides has been proven to successfully relieve shudder without making a lasting lesion as a consequence of thalamotomy ( Della Flora et al. , 2010 ) . However, the disadvantages of both surgical processs are dearly-won and increased potency hazard of redness and infection ( Chan A ; Swope, 2003 ) . Weight Scheme Burdening schemes is a common method used to stamp down the happening of nonvoluntary tremorogenic conditions of the custodies. The attack has persisted in some rehabilitation scenes since the first clip limb weighting was being introduced to a group of patients with upper limb shudder in early 1960s ( Chase et al. , 1965 ) . Assorted theoretical thoughts have been created to explicate the pertinence of burdening schemes for this population. One of the theories proposed that adding sufficient tonss to a section of the organic structure exerts suppressive control over motor fluctuation ( Schalow et al. , 2005 ) . Harmonizing to dynamic systems theory, motion forms are influenced by undertaking restraints ( e.g. weight of utensils ) and personal features ( e.g. neurophysiological factors ) . It is plausible that the thought of utilizing weights to relieve parkinsonian shudder has persisted because of an feeling that the size of shudder of an object held in the manus may be reduced. The effects of limb weighting are believed to ease co-contraction and stableness of musculuss by increasing proprioceptive input to the cerebellum from the centripetal variety meats of the musculuss and articulations ( Wood A ; Eames, 1989 ) . On the other manus, it has besides been hypothesized that the usage of weights on dist al portion of the limb will suppress the being of shudder due to muscle weariness ( Wood A ; Eames, 1989 ) . Common weighting schemes for people with upper limb shudder are weighted wrist turnup and leaden utensils/appliances. Leaden carpus turnup is Weighted utensils is In occupational therapy, compensation techniques are utile to optimise map upon disablement. The commissariats of weights have been supported in old occupational therapy literature ( Wood A ; Eames, 1989 ) . In contrast to the theories by Wood and Eames ( 1989 ) , long term usage of leaden AIDSs were found to hold negative effects on the happening of shudder ( Kovich A ; Bermann, 1988 ) . The remotion of leaden AIDSs will take to hyperbole of shudder due to gradual adjustment of the upper appendage musculuss to the excess weight provided by the weights ( Kovich A ; Bermann, 1988 ) . Furthermore, the penchant of the type of leaden AIDSs ( wrist turnup and weighted utensils ) has besides been a conflicting issue as the latter 1s are non easy modified and controlled ( Dahlin-Webb, 1986 ) . In the state of affairs of persons with upper appendage shudder, the commissariats of leaden AIDSs to the upper appendage have been a common method to handle the job. Leaden carpus turnups which were designed to supply opposition to dorsal surface of the manus have been the most preferable method to cut down shudder ( Dahlin-Webb, 1986 ) . Alternatively, ready-made leaden equipments such as leaden utensils are besides commercially available for the same intent. TREMOR MEASUREMENT The effectivity of a intervention process can be determined by measuring the primary or secondary impacts of shudder to a peculiar individual ( Bain, 1998 ) . Primary consequence refers to direct impact of the intervention process on shudder features such as frequence of shudder and besides the degree of shudder badness while secondary consequence refers to alter in the individual ââ¬Ës functional public presentation or life position. Therefore, the usage of a multidimensional attack of nonsubjective and subjective result steps is valuable to measure the effectivity of leaden AIDSs. There are four methods to accomplish the intent of survey which include physiological techniques, subjective clinical steps, nonsubjective functional public presentation trials and impact of shudder on patients ââ¬Ë lives ( Bain, 1998 ) . Accelerometry Tremor was recorded in the plane of flexure and extension of the manus with illumination piezoresistive accelerometers, base on balls set DC i? 100 Hz, mounted on the back of the manus between the 2nd and 3rd metacarpals with surgical tape. Tremor frequence and magnitude were measured with a Solartron 1220 Signal Processor. On the footing of 1-min samples of shudder a computation was made of the norm of six spectra derived from overlapping samples of shudder within the 1-min period. The spectra ranged from DC 50 Hz with 500 lines of spectral declaration and 90 dubnium dynamic scope. For moderate to terrible shudder, the averaged spectrum has a individual dominant extremum. The magnitude of acceleration at extremum was converted into supplanting arithmetically. For mild indispensable shudder the averaged spectrum typically had important constituents at a wide spread of frequences reflecting its multiple constituent beginnings, as is the instance for normal physiological shudder. This was true for both shudder recorded during undertakings and maintained position. The magnitude of mild indispensable shudder was characterised by the magnitude of the largest constituent nowadays. It should be noted that as tremor badness increased the figure of extremums greater than 50 % of the magnitude of the dominant spectral extremum decreased, be givening towards zero if harmonics were excluded. Accelerometry was performed on each patient during kept up position, when keeping a cup full of H2O and whilst transporting out a tracking undertaking. Volumetric appraisal The patients were required to keep a 100ml cup full of H2O between the pollex and finger with the cubitus supported and flexed by about 20Aà ° with the forearm in a semi-prone place and somewhat elevated, as if about to raise the cup to imbibe. The cup was made of plastic, weighed 20 g, had a 5 centimeter diameter, was 6 cm deep, and was ab initio full to the lip with H2O. The cup was held for 1 minute after which a measuring was made of the liquid staying in the cup. Volumetric appraisals were made three times for each manus and the agencies of the values for each manus employed in the consequences. Tracking undertaking The patients were tested with joystick trailing of a consecutive mark line which swept horizontally across the center of a 10 centimeter storage CRO screen. The tracking missile was a similar line which had to be maintained in super-imposition on the mark line. Both mark and missile were externally controlled so that they moved abreast at the same speed. The topic was seated in forepart of the CRO at normal sing distance. The control stick was mounted on the arm of the chair and was held between the pollex and fingers of the manus with forearm supported. The control stick control adjusted the perpendicular disparity of the missile so that any unwanted manus motion would do the projectile hint to hover above and below the intended flight. Each test consisted of a 1-minute expanse of the hints across the screen. Tracking mistake was characterised by the integral of the modulus of the distance of the projectile hint from a 1 millimeter deep impersonal zone about the mark. The system was tested on 15 healthy control topics who all produced zero mistake, irrespective of the manus used. In the instance of the patients tracking appraisals were made three times for each manus and the mean of the tonss ( for each manus ) utilized. Spirography The patients were instructed to pull a coiling with each manus in bend, with the pen held in a normal manner. The shudder seeable in a spiral was the independently scored ( from 0-10 ) by three ââ¬Å" blind â⬠raters, with zero bespeaking a normal spiral and ten an highly quavering one. The agency of the three raters ââ¬Ë tonss for each patient were used in the consequences, with each manus scored individually. Significance TO OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY What is a systematic reappraisal? What are the groundss that it is the best solution? An examination of the art of Andy Warhol and the reasons his work is so well-known. The paper explores his methods of production mostly silk screen printing and his series producing several images of a certain subject. The paper discusses how Warhol, in his various struggles to create art, was attempting to redefine and popularize American art by making it commercial and also by making the focus upon commercialism in his art a comment upon society. Warhols art blurs the relationship between what comes first, the reality or the image. More and more people construct their lives around what they see on television. Warhol, in his own work, From a to b and Back Again, that: A whole day of life is like a whole day of TV. (Warhol 5) Both, he says, are never ending and never shut off. As life is no longer interior and private and personal, art should also be exterior public and impersonal. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-30167288936455175202020-03-19T12:11:00.001-07:002020-03-19T12:11:03.071-07:00Whats the Deal with Improving Sentences SAT Writing Section Guide and AdviceWhat's the Deal with Improving Sentences SAT Writing Section Guide and Advice SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Thereââ¬â¢s nothing harder than trying to figure out what someone else thinks is ââ¬Å"the best,â⬠and Improving Sentences asks you to do just that. Luckily, weââ¬â¢ve got a few tricks up our sleeve that allow you to move through these questions with confidence. In this post,weââ¬â¢ll look at the writing skills these questions are designed to test and how to use those skills to answer the questions correctly. Improving Sentencesquestions havea section of a sentence underlined and 4 alternatives (plus the option to keep the sentence the way it is). The instructions say that these questions ââ¬Å"test correctness and effectiveness of expression.â⬠This means that the sentences arenââ¬â¢t necessarily wrong (though they usually are), they can also just be bad or confusing. We have to find the best, rather than simply the correct, way of saying something. But the types of choices and mistakes are the same in every test, so let's talk about the most common one and how to ââ¬Å"improveâ⬠it. #1 Issue: Conciseness, Conciseness, Conciseness Almost all Improving Sentences questions involve conciseness; even if itââ¬â¢s not the main problem in the question, some of the incorrect answer choices will be wordy to the point of sounding like nonsense. Just to get a feel for what we mean by this, Here are some concise sentences and their less concise evil twins: Most dinosaur nests were hidden beneath vegetation from potential predators. Most dinosaurs laid eggs in hidden nests on the ground that was extremely well protected from other dinosaurs so that they would be more unlikely to be eaten by them. You can see that all the information in the longer sentence is included in the shorter one: things can only be hidden beneath vegetation if it's on the ground, and the word ââ¬Å"predatorsâ⬠means hunting animals. The phrase ââ¬Å"hidden from...predatorsâ⬠can only mean that the point is to keep the eggs safe. Hereââ¬â¢s another fun one: Because bacteria and other organisms can penetrate eggshells and decompose the contents, very few fossilized eggs found today contain any embryonic material. For the reason that the walls of eggs can be penetrated by bacteria and other small organisms that feed on organic material, the stone-like fossilized eggs people find today are usually lacking any remnants of embryos, whether intact or not. Okay, the second sentence here is a bit long even for the SAT, but it drives home the point that there is virtually no limit to the amount of irrelevant and repetitive information that can be stuffed into a sentence. And the SAT loves to push that particular envelope. The key is the information: can the same meaning be conveyed in fewer words? Below, we look at the information in the sentences above: Short Sentence Long Sentence Because For the reason that bacteria and other organisms can penetrate eggshells and decompose the contents the walls of eggs can be penetrated by bacteria and other small organisms that feed on organic material very few...contain any embryonic material are usually lacking any remnants of embryos, whether intact or not fossilized eggs found today the stone-like fossilized eggs people find today As you can see, any extra information that the second sentence offers is not relevant to the point of the sentence: the appearance of the eggs, what organisms feed on (thatââ¬â¢s obvious from the fact that theyââ¬â¢re eating dino eggs), and whether the embryos are intact or not. Those things donââ¬â¢t matter here, because the sentence is about the absence of embryonic material in the eggs. Common Problem: Repeated References to Something Another way to spot an SAT-designed bad sentence is repeated references to a person or thing, like so: The dinosaur eggs, those which had been incubated by machines, they were almost ready to hatch. Can you spot the nouns and pronouns in this sentence that refer to the same thing (the eggs)? Go ahead, weââ¬â¢ll wait. There are three: ââ¬Å"eggs,â⬠of course, ââ¬Å"those,â⬠and ââ¬Å"they.â⬠In this case, you can just take out the second two and the sentence is SAT-approved. Generally, we only need to use a pronoun when there are two things going on in the sentence: After the incubators had warmed, turned and monitored them for two months, the eggs were ready to hatch. Above, thereââ¬â¢s the actions the incubators took in gestating the eggs, and then the statement that they are ready to hatch. That makes the two references, ââ¬Å"eggsâ⬠and ââ¬Å"they,â⬠necessary. In the previous sentence, the only thing thatââ¬â¢s happening is that theyââ¬â¢re ready to hatch; the rest of the information is extra. Even More Common Problem: Gerunds, a.k.a. ââ¬Å"-ingâ⬠verbs First of all, letââ¬â¢s get one thing straight: a gerund, or ââ¬Å"-ingâ⬠verb, cannot by itself be the only verb in a sentence. Letââ¬â¢s take ââ¬Å"feelingâ⬠as an example: Can we say ââ¬Å"She feeling betterâ⬠? No, we have to say she is feeling better. We can use it to start a sentence, like ââ¬Å"Feeling better, she walked downstairs.â⬠But the operative verb in this sentence is walked, not feeling. Students overuse ââ¬Å"-ingâ⬠verbs, because they are more all-purpose than other verb conjugations. But they have limited utility in good writing, and even less utility on the SAT. (Bonus SAT vocab lesson: ââ¬Å"utilityâ⬠means usefulness.) The SAT is constantly presenting us with these kinds of sentences: The dinosaur eggs were very delicate, the reason for this being that they needed to be incubated. Then theyââ¬â¢ll give us some alternatives to the underlined section: (A) (same as original) (B) and the reason being you have to incubate them (C) for the reason that incubation was needed by them (D) because of the fact that their incubation is necessary and vital (E) because they required incubation Strategy: How to Eliminate Carefully and Effectively The key to maneuvering successfully through the SAT is elimination. The choices are designed to overwhelm and confuse students, which is part of the reason theyââ¬â¢re overhauling the test in 2016. This is also one of the many reasons the SAT requires preparation- the strategy of elimination is actually quite refined and powerful, if you do it correctly. So rather than point out why the right answer is right, weââ¬â¢re going to use the ââ¬Å"-ingâ⬠verbs example above to give you a sample of our elimination strategy. Step 1: Which choice is the longest? Above, itââ¬â¢s (D), and Itââ¬â¢s almost never the answer. You can safely eliminate it on this question type: if the others all seem blatantly wrong, then consider it. Step 2: Which is the most straightforward? Active voice is always better than passive voice: ââ¬Å"they required incubationâ⬠is always preferable to ââ¬Å"incubation was needed by themâ⬠- eliminate (C). The second person- â⬠youâ⬠- is oftenwrong on the SAT, unless the writer is speaking directly to the reader. When itââ¬â¢s used to mean ââ¬Å"a person,â⬠itââ¬â¢s confusing, vague, and inaccurate. Eliminate (B). These steps leave us with only (A), the original, and (E), the shortest answer choice. Hopefully (E) clearly sounds better to you (see, here Iââ¬â¢m talking directly to you, the reader, so the second person in appropriate). This strategy allows us to work through questions methodically and efficiently without losing our respective minds. It works for all the Reading and Writing questions (and some Math ones), but is especially necessary when your choices are just heaps of words with one ââ¬Å"bestâ⬠option stuck in between. As part of the treaty ending the American Revolution, Great Britain ceded to the new United States the lands over the Appalachian Mountains as far west as the Mississippi River. In Ohio, several Native American tribes came together in 1785, to form the Western Confederacy with the goal of dealing jointly with the United States. The following year, they decided that the Ohio River would serve as the border between their lands and the Americans. In the mid-1780s, the Confederacy began a series of raids south of the Ohio into Kentucky to discourage settlement. Conflict on the Frontier To deal with the threat posed by the Confederacy, President George Washington instructed Brigadier General Josiah Harmar to attack into Shawnee and Miami lands with the goal of destroying the village of Kekionga (present-day Fort Wayne, IN). As the US Army had essentially been disbanded after the American Revolution, Harmar marched west with a small force of regulars and approximately 1,100 militia. Fighting two battles in October 1790, Harmar was defeated by Confederacy warriors led by Little Turtle and Blue Jacket. St. Clairs Defeat The following year, another force was dispatched under Major General Arthur St. Clair.à Preparations for the campaign began in early 1791 with the goal of moving north to take the Miami capital of Kekionga. Though Washington advised St. Clair to march during the warmer summer months, incessant supply problems and logistical issues delayed the expeditions departure until October. When St. Clair departed Fort Washington (present-day Cincinnati, OH), he possessed around 2,000 men of which only 600 were regulars. Attacked by Little Turtle, Blue Jacket, andà Buckongahelas on November 4, St. Clairs army was routed. In the battle, his command lost 632 killed/captured and 264 wounded. In addition, almost all of the 200 camp followers, many of whom had fought alongside the soldiers, were killed. Of the 920 soldiers who entered the fight, only 24 emerged uninjured. In the victory, Little Turtles force only sustained 21 killed and 40 wounded. With a casualty rate of 97.4%, the Battle of the Wabash marked the worst defeat in the history of the US Army.à Armies Commanders United States Major General Anthony Wayne3,000 men Western Confederacy Blue JacketBuckongahelasLittle Turtle1,500 men Wayne Prepares In 1792, Washington turned to Major General Anthony Wayne and asked him build a force capable of defeating the Confederacy. An aggressive Pennsylvanian, Wayne had repeatedly distinguished himself during the American Revolution. At the suggestion of Secretary of War Henry Knox, the decision was made recruit and train a legion which would combine light and heavy infantry with artillery and cavalry. This concept was approved by Congress which agreed to augment the small standing army for the duration of the conflict with the Native Americans. Moving quickly, Wayne commenced assembling a new force near Ambridge, PA at a camp dubbed Legionville. Realizing that previous forces had lacked training and discipline, Wayne spent much of 1793 drilling and instructing his men.à Titling his army the Legion of the United States, Waynes force consisted of four sub-legions, each commanded by a lieutenant colonel. These contained of two battalions of infantry, a battalion of riflemen/skirmishers, a troop of dragoons, and a battery of artillery. The self-contained structure of the sub-legions meant they could operate effectively on their own.à Moving to Battle In late 1793, Wayne shifted his command down the Ohio to Fort Washington (present-day Cincinnati, OH). From here, units moved north as Wayne built a series of forts to protect his supply lines and the settlers in his rear. As Waynes 3,000 men moved north, Little Turtle became concerned about the Confederacys ability to defeat him. Following an exploratory attack near Fort Recovery in June 1794, Little Turtle began to advocate in favor of negotiating with the US. Rebuffed by the Confederacy, Little Turtle ceded complete command to Blue Jacket. Moving to confront Wayne, Blue Jacket assumed a defensive position along the Maumee River near a copse of fallen trees and close to British-held Fort Miami. It was hoped that the fallen trees would slow the advance of Waynes men. The Americans Strike On August 20, 1794, the lead elements of Waynes command came under fire from Confederacy forces.à Quickly assessing the situation, Wayne deployed the his troops with his infantry led by Brigadier General James Wilkinson on the right and Colonel John Hamtramck on the left.à The Legions cavalry guarded the American right while brigade of mounted Kentuckians protected the other wing.à As the terrain appeared to preclude the effective use of cavalry, Wayne ordered his infantry to mount a bayonet attack to flush the enemy from the fallen trees.à This done, they could be effectively dispatched with musket fire. Advancing, the superior discipline of Waynes troops quickly began to tell and the Confederacy was soon forced out of its position. Starting to break, they began to flee the field when the American cavalry, charging over the fallen trees, joined the fray. Routed, the Confederacys warriors fled towards Fort Miami hoping that the British would provide protection. Arriving there found the gates closed as the forts commander did not wish to start a war with the Americans. As the Confederacys men fled, Wayne ordered his troops to burn all of the villages and crops in the area and then withdrawal to Fort Greenville. Aftermath Impact In the fighting at Fallen Timbers, Waynes Legion lost 33 dead and 100 wounded. Reports conflict regarding the Confederacys casualties, with Wayne claiming 30-40 dead on the field to the British Indian Department stating 19. The victory at Fallen Timbers ultimately led to the signing of the Treaty of Greenville in 1795, which ended the conflict and removed all Confederacy claims to Ohio and the surrounding lands. Among those Confederacy leaders who refused to sign the treaty was Tecumseh, who would renew the conflict ten years later. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-85738110728793318672020-02-15T19:21:00.001-08:002020-02-15T19:21:02.363-08:00Human resource development in multinational companies EssayHuman resource development in multinational companies - Essay Example To cope up with the competition, they are required to plan and implement strategies to develop the companyââ¬â¢s human resources. In todayââ¬â¢s globalized environment, it has become difficult for the managers to completely eliminate the threats that globalization has brought. Multinational companies face many of such difficulties in acquiring efficient staff in other countries. Multinational companies aim to build up their brand name and reputation. They need to provide the same quality and facilities in every country they are working in. However, the human resources available in different countries bring different challenges for them. They need to develop a plan to accumulate a workforce which could perfectly carry out the job the company aims to achieve. The concept of repatriation and expatriation is also worth mentioning here as the human resource development program must consider these concepts. As an expatriate gets the assigned work done in the other country and moves b ack to the host country, he faces the adjustment problems all over again. A complete and viable HRD strategy must also take in to account these workers who are sent abroad while working permanently in some multinational organization. Objective: The aim of this paper is to identify the key challenges faced by senior managers in todayââ¬â¢s globalized business environment in achieving competent human resources. The paper also focuses on the researches made in this regard. In addition it provides recommendations to lessen or eliminate the difficulties in human resource development and reduce the employee turnover rate in the organizations. The study is designed in such a manner that would help in achieving the objective successfully. In the first step it provides a brief introduction about multinational organizations and their place in todayââ¬â¢s business world. The authorsââ¬â¢ randomized controlled tests identify passivity among the poor because they fear involved risks in active ventures and because of misplaced priorities that consume their resources instead of investments for higher incomes. Resource limitation is the main challenge to the solution strategy and calls for empowerment from rich people and countries. Banerjee and Dufloââ¬â¢s proposal for an active role of the rich in poverty eradication also promises viability by resolving the poorââ¬â¢s limitation into activeness. Creating awareness of possible initiatives by the poor is likely to undermine fears of failure and encourage the poor. Offering economic support is also likely to improve personal initiatives among the poor because of resolved resource limitation problem. Goodwill and political support, however, challenge empowerment initiatives but the authorââ¬â¢s third altern ative offers the remedy. Better politics towards corruption free governance is likely to focus on poverty eradication, instead of self-centered interests, and source for resources for the initiative and manage available resources with integrity. Integrating the three ideas is likely to succeed in eradicating global poverty (Banerjee and Duflo). à The authorsââ¬â¢ ideas identify hope in solving the global poverty problem and identify the need for professional attention to the problem. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-6352798954645548352020-01-25T08:25:00.001-08:002020-01-25T08:25:03.242-08:00Asphyxiation Essay -- Personal Narrative WritingAsphyxiation The Vancouver Sun later confirmed the events of that night: two hikers found two dead bodies at Camper Creek on the West Coast Trail on the sixth of May 1998. The article didnââ¬â¢t say who the hikers were, nor did it say who the dead Native Americans were, for what would the world do with those four meaningless names? None of the four was famous, beautiful, or rich: just normal people drawn together on one particular night. The encounter was determined by two simple factors: the speed of the hikers along the soggy trail and the speed of leaking gas that asphyxiated two men in a patrol cabin. The hikers never knew the two indigenous people, except for what they wore that night, what booze they drank, and what side they slept on. And those simple details were just enough to make the dead bodies Human: capable of joking, singing, fighting, and eating. So the sudden termination of these lives confused the hikers, for they werenââ¬â¢t sure what they should feel about the death of two strangers. The hikers stared and stared at the bodies, perhaps feeling sadness for the friends, parents, and lovers of these men, but feeling only emptiness for the men themselves. They were just two more anonymous faces, frozen in their final dreams and nothing more than dead. I. Dididat Nations People have lived on Vancouver Island since the last ice age, when the Bering Strait froze and allowed human passage from Asia to North America. The Pacific Northwest tribes thrived for thousands of years in this rich ecosystem, where trees grow to such vast sizes that a hollow trunk may hold twenty people without much trouble. For thousands of years, the forest remained a bountiful network of life: moss and lichens crept over every tree... ...we found the bodies, yet the crashing blue-green water spins me into a reality that is worlds away from the sight of stiff men. I'm not sure if this is healing or forgetfulness; all I can be certain of is the bite of the water on my skin and the dropping sun. I stare at my hand under the surface of the water, fascinated by how far away it looks and by the deep blue color of my fingernails. That hand isn't a part of my body, how can it be, it is deep in the water, opening and closing experimentally as water crashes on top of it. I want to leave it there, forever feeling the numbing water, forever fighting the currents that would wash it out to the Pacific Ocean. But then my arm moves, lifts my hand, and I realize it is mine, as are my legs and toes and wet matted hair. And the water keeps falling, pounding, rushing and I just stand there, staring, watching, waiting. friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-16793123995380473852020-01-17T04:49:00.001-08:002020-01-17T04:49:04.959-08:00Night John EssayMrs. Barrows Us History I 25 August 2012 Nightjohn Reflection Questions Chapter I 1. What Sarny is learning in her lessons with Nightjohn is how to read and write. 2a. Sarny was writing in the dirt. 2b. Sarny tells Waller that he deserves to go to hell. 2c. Waller kicks Sarny in the stomach. 2d. The conflict for Sarny is external because it is between her and Waller. 2e. Mammy was p unished and her punishment was getting shackled to the wall. 2f. Nightjohn confessed to teaching Sarny the letters and this tell me he is a brave individual. 2g. Waller cuts two of Nightjohnââ¬â¢s toes with the help of his son Robe. 2h.Sarny believes that Waller is cruel by what he did to Mammy and Nightjohn, and that he deserves nothing but the worse. Chapter VI 1. The actions that John takes after his toes are chopped off are admirable. He starts writing an A while all the slaves in the plantation are around him while saying he has learned his lesson. Then he writes a B saying ââ¬Å"This is B. What I named my wifeââ¬Å". One of the slaves then calls over Clel, their owner, and he continues with the next letter in the alphabet. While writing the letter C he says ââ¬Å"This is the letter C like a mouth open just like if you had something important to sayâ⬠. . Yes, I believe John will be successful with his planned because he is a brave man and would do anything to reach h is goal. 3. What John promises Sarny is that he will always be looking for her and she seems to believe him. I myself believe him because he seems like a man thatââ¬â¢s about his words. Chapter VII 1. Nightjohn was successful with his plan because he made it away safely and afterwards came back for Sarny like he promised. 2. What has happened to Sarny since John left was that she never wrote words in the dirt learned the letters A-J. 3. Yes, John kept his promise to Sarny because he came back for her. . Human Variability Social Science Datasets Human variability is an important component of social science datasets. How do social researchers account for this variability when drawing conclusions from data? Describe two situations in which the basis for these conclusions is undermined. Introduction The information contained in social science datasets aims to provide an accurate description of the social world (Byrne, 1998, p. 126). However individuals within any society are inherently highly variable due to human nature. The idea of humanness is something which Haslam et al. (2009, p. 55) suggest is ascribed to members of our species in a manner which is largely taken for granted. The notion of what defines humanness or human nature is somewhat tricky to define (Schein, 2010, p. 143). One way of simplifying human variability is to understand it in terms of its genetic basis. The human genome is constructed of more than 35 000 genes; with the exception of monozygotic twins, these are unlikely to be identical for any two individuals on the planet (Naylor Chen, 2010, p. 275). However variability is likely to be further exacerbated by the influence of social factors, as human nature is formed as a combination of these biological and social influences (Kundu, 2009, p. 16) . The concept of human nature and its underlying composition therefore opens up the notion of human variability. A general definition of variability would be ââ¬Å"striking deviations fromâ⬠¦patternsâ⬠where patterns are observed within a given population (Gould, 2004, p. 2). However, it would be argued that this very general definition of variability could be insufficient to describe human variability, as the concept of human nature already discussed would indicate that we are all different to one another, making it difficult to ascribe any general patterns (Gould, 2004, p. 5; Cohen, 2007, p. 71). Even within the cultural model of human nature there is wide variability between individuals (Schein, 2010, p. 143). Instead, human variability would therefore be taken to constitute not only differences from the norm, but differences simply from one another. It is impossible for any research study to adequately sample all of this variability (OECD, 2000, p. 177), alt hough in order to draw meaningful conclusions from studies in social science it is important that human variability is something which is considered by researchers. This essay discusses the approaches taken by social science researchers to account for this variability, then presents two situations in which the basis for these conclusions may be undermined. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Human Variability Social Science Datasets" essay for you Create order Accounting for Variability It has been suggested that many of the models which social sciences rely on to explain human social phenomena may present a somewhat limited representation due to their not taking adequate account of human variability (Tanner, 2008, p. 2). However, some have gone so far as to argue that the presence of human variability means that there can be no general principles regarding human life and social interactions (Gould, 2004, p. 5; Cohen, 2007, p. 71). This is based on the observation that the human psyche only becomes organized as a result of external influences. This therefore implies that the human being is plastically variable, making it impossible to apply firm general laws to it (Cohen, 2007, p. 71). It has also been supported by the work of the German statistician Wilhelm Lexis, who found that dispersions of human behaviour from statistical models were much greater than predicted by chance (Gould, 2004, p. 5). Despite the possible validity of this argument, it is still de sirable to attempt to construct general rules for the purpose of understanding the impact of different actions on the population, for example health care interventions and social policy. In attempting to construct such models through analysis of social datasets, human variability may present an issue to social science researchers on two accounts. The first is that within any study population there is likely to be a significant level of variability between members of that population at any one point in time. Secondly, since the variability is on-going and continuous, it means that the conclusions drawn from any piece of research may be inextricably linked to the specific circumstances which existed at the point in time at which the research was conducted (Tanner, 2008, p. 2). One example of the first of these issues is given by Tanner (2008, p. 132), who discusses the reaction of individuals to religious gatherings. The complexity of human nature means that different value s and motivations most likely result in every individual experiencing religious practice in a slightly different way. While this in itself often forms the focus of qualitative research, it may be extremely difficult to take account of this variability in quantitative studies. Another example is discussed by Byrne (1998, p. 126), who suggests that quantitative research conducted within one school is unlikely to be directly applicable within another. They argue that the data collected is unlikely to be transferrable as it is likely to be significantly influenced by the schools social dynamics, which are unlikely to be identical in any other school. A third useful example is in the study of the placebo effect in medicine, where there has been shown to be marked variation among individuals, making it difficult to derive any general trend (Lyby et al., 2011, p. 2405). From such studies, it is however possible to see how social science researchers attempt to account for variabili ty when deriving conclusions from the datasets. One approach to this is to limit the scope of the conclusions which are drawn from a study to a specific subsection of the population, as discussed by Byrne et al. (1998, p. 126). This may involve performing primary research within the specific population for which it is to be applied. For example if there is a need to have evidence on which to base school policy, social science researchers may choose to conduct research specifically within that school. Here, however, there is still likely to be variation within the sample, in spite of shared social characteristics, as this would not account for other factors of human nature, such as genetic or personality differences, both of which may have a significant impact on behaviour and academic performance at school (Furnham et al., 2009, p. 769). Therefore the conclusions could be inappropriately applied to those not fitting the original norm. A similar situation may also arise d ue to another approach which is to remove outliers from the data, which are those which vary markedly from the mean (Motulsky Christopoulos, 2004, p. 23). Although this would appear to limit the usefulness of any study in the larger social science context, it may be necessary to be able to derive any meaningful predictive trends from the quantitative data. Many of the statistical testing methods which are used to analyse social science datasets are disrupted by high levels of variance. For example ANOVA attempts to explain variance in respect to one variable within the population according to the presence or absence of other factors. Yet if these other factors are too variable in nature then the results are likely to be disrupted. Additionally, the variable of interest itself must not vary markedly from the normal distribution, or this too will lead to inaccurate conclusions being drawn from the analysis (Richards, 2009, p. 14). This issue may be overcome in many instances by ensuring that a larger sample size is used, so that there is more probability of outliers lying at the extremes of this normal distribution (Gorard, 2003, p. 62). An alternative approach is to try and instead actively limit the variation in the data analysed, as this may produce results which are more readily generalizable to the study population (Gorard, 2003, p. 61). One way to achieve this is to attempt to strip individuals within any dataset down to shared basic characteristics and then select participants which match the desired set of characteristics. This involves reducing aspects of culture down to common elements (Shore, 2012, p. 148). For example, in the study by Lyby et al. (2011, p. 2405) participants were selected on the basis of certain shared aspects of their medical history and care, so that the conclusions drawn would be targeted towards this specific subset of the population, and would not be applicable to those varying from these characteristics. This ap proach may be useful when considering individualized medical interventions, but may be less useful when considering wider social initiatives, where the population will invariably stray from tightly shared characteristics. Neighbourhoods and Communities One area in which conclusions drawn from social datasets may be undermined is that of studies involving the study of neighbourhoods and communities for the purposes of policy formation. An example of this is the policy a decade ago regarding the introduction of street wardens to the UK. There have been some studies conducted in individual neighbourhoods in which street wardens were introduced, from which the data showed subsequent reductions in crime and other negative outcomes. The conclusions from these studies attempted to account for variability by suggesting that the results be applied on a limited level (University of Leeds, 2005, p. 5; Sin, 2008, p. 389). However, when these conclusions were applied on a wider level, there were very varied results seen across different neighbourhoods (Sin, 2008, p. 389). This could be due to similar issues as those discussed by Byrne (1998, p. 126) in the context of schools. It is likely that the characteristics of communities prese nt in different areas of the UK are likely to be highly varied due to individual, local social and environmental factors. Therefore these communities are likely to present very different reactions to one social intervention. Here it would be suggested that the usual approaches taken to account for variation in dataset analysis may not be adequate. For example it would be very difficult to take large sample sizes if considering each community as an individual unit. It would also be difficult to remove outliers, as it would be expected that the different communities would vary so markedly that it would be difficult to establish a norm. Even if this were the case, this would then severely limit the applicability of the analysis when considering national policy. One of the best solutions would be instead to consider collection of data from each individual area and tailor policy on a local level according to these findings. Drinking Patterns A second example of an area in which social dataset conclusions may be undermined by human variation is in adult alcohol consumption patterns and its effects (Gould, 2004, p. 7). The nature of alcohol consumption is something which is now understood to be determined by a whole multitude of factors, including genetic factors, environmental factors, social circumstances and personality characteristics (Dick et al., 2011, p. 2512; Kendler et al., 2011, p. 1507). This in itself clearly opens this behaviour up to wide variation between individuals due to the complex interaction of these factors, a consequence of human variability as discussed in the introduction. However, this also means that the precise nature of alcohol consumption may be something which is open to change over time. Many of the shared aspects of humanity within any social group could be considered to be evolutionary in nature (Shore, 2012, p. 149). For example environmental and social variables change; however t his evolutionary concept would imply that it is also possible that humans change in their very nature over time too (Gould, 2004, p. 7). This may be further explained taking the example of a research study by Hingson et al. (2009, p. 783) which examined the influence of age of drinking onset on physical injuries, motor vehicle crashes and physical fights after drinking. The study concluded that drinking at an early age was associated with greater odds of each of these consequences and that delaying the age of drinking onset should be promoted to reduce the risk to the individual. Yet human variability could undermine these conclusions in a number of ways. For example there is evidence that rates of violence have increased in general over time (Eisner, 2008, online). Although this could in itself be attributed to increasing trends in alcohol consumption, this may be unlikely based on data which indicates a decline in drinking patterns in the US (Kerr et al., 2009, p. 27). However, there have been a number of research studies which have indicated that personality traits possibly linked to violent behaviour have changed over the past few decades (Twenge et al., 2008, p. 875). This therefore indicates that risk of violence is something which is linked to variation in human nature over time and could change in the near future, which was not accounted for when discussing the future implications of this research. Therefore it is entirely possible that the suggested interventions could have little impact on risk of violence. Conclusions The very nature of humanity means that individuals vary markedly from each other, due to the influence of different genetic, psychological, social and environmental factors. The overwhelming potential for different combinations of these factors means that within any social setting it is likely that significant variability would exist, even though some common factors may be shared by members of that population. Although this is part of the main source of interest in the study of sociology, it may present a challenge when conducting analysis on quantitative social data sets. This variability may be accounted for when drawing conclusions by ensuring that analysis reduces the variability in the data set or by limiting the application of the conclusions outside of the sample from which it was drawn. It has been on the rise for many, many years. I believe and intend to prove in the following essay that it is societies responsibility for the rise of violent crime with their unwillingness and inability to effectively deal with the current trend in our society. In the last few years, a slight dip in violent crime has been noted, but we must view this with skepticism as no official statistics are available. As well as this could be an example of society realizing that the Criminal Justice System is not effectively dealing with the trend of violence in Canada. Thisâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Any form of an assault on the person, ranging from sexual assault to Aggravated assault. Robbery, Homicide, Attempted Homicide, and Manslaughter are all considered violent crimes. These crimes are committed for a variety of reasons that range from unbelievable to incredible. Some are done for fun, having no real reason at all. Anger is a major reason for assaults being committed as well as Homicides. Robbery of a store or mugging of an individual is another reason. As well as pure pre-meditated violence, whether it is a beating or a murder, people use violence to enforce other things that are considered to be valued reasons for violence. In fact many sub-cultures of Canadian culture, such as gangs have developed differing views on crime and see the act of assaulting another individual as a way of settling a dispute and/or argument. A more technical definition would be as follows; quot; a crime involves the violation of a norm. Norms are social rules ranging from the important and the binding to the less important and optional. From which society makes attempts and rules to regulate behaviour in society quot; The Importance of the laws are measured by the level of punishments imposed upon the offender and the sanctions in place against the law. An example of this is lying and skipping class are considered to be minor infractions, where as murder is considered to be one of the most atrocious acts that could be committed by a person. The first difference is the cost. Normally, off campus housing is more expensive than on campus housing because of the additional charges. We will write a custom essay sample on On Campus or Off Campus Living or any similar topic only for you Order Now When you live off campus, you should pay for your own Internet access, furniture, and kitchen and bath necessities in addition to the rent, so it is a high initial cost. However, on campus housing does not need most of these charges because they are already paid with the rent. The second difference is transportation. If you live on campus, you can easily walk to your classes, libraries, and cafeterias. You do not have to waste your time and money to ride buses or trains or to drive your car to go to the campus. In contrast, you should ride buses or trains or drive your car to go to the campus when you live off campus which means wasting money and time in addition to the traffic issues if you are living in a crowded area. On campus housing and off campus housing also differ in privacy. On campus housing usually means a shared bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen. It is also means a limited and sometimes not quiet place to study because you share it with others. On the other hand, off campus housing means you own your bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen and also means there is a large enough and quiet enough place to study. The other difference is the social life. Living on campus allows you to make more friends and meet more people than living off campus and also keeps you in touch with any activities that happen on campus, while living off campus probably does not allow you to make more friends or keep in touch with most campus activities. All in all, there are many differences between living on campus and living off campus, so when you want to choose between living on and off campus, classify these differences to advantages and disadvantages depending on your situation. After that, choose which is more advantageous than the other. . The movement into a new world can me emotional, physical or mentally and can be a personal change or be promoted by a mentor. In ââ¬Å"Educating Ritaâ⬠by Willy Russell, Frank promotes Rita to venture into his world of education in order for her for achieve the freedom and choice she desires, however Frank can also be a barrier for Rita at times. This change is not an easy change and comes at a cost. From early on in the play Willy Russell depicts the difference in class through the contrast of Rita and Frank. Ritaââ¬â¢s language can been seen as informal, loose and lots of swearing, typical images of a working class upbringing juxtaposed to the precise and formal educated language used by Frank. Rita longs to enter the world of education and escape her working class origins when she realises she is ââ¬Å"slightly out of stepâ⬠therefore she sees the Open University as a way of moving into a different world where she has ââ¬Å"choiceâ⬠. As Trish says there is not a lot of point in discussing beautiful literature in an ugly voiceâ⬠we can see that she has lost her individuality and flare in the fight to become the same as all the other students around her. She tries to talk in a posh way thinking that this would make her middle class. In contrast to the point I made above letââ¬â¢s look at Rita at the start of the play. Her bright, bold, bubbly character is revealed in the very first scene, as the two characters are introduced. She makes a very dramatic entrance, bursting through the door, swearing, and immediately drawing all attention to her; ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s that stupid bleedinââ¬â¢ handle on the door. â⬠With the phrase ââ¬Å"stupid bleedinââ¬â¢ â⬠Willy Russell is showing how Rita isnââ¬â¢t really sure how to act, and her insecurity and nerves make her appear in such a loud manner. This shows how little she understands of formal interview situations. Her swearing makes this comment more jaw-dropping and unsettling, especially since this is her first meeting with Frank. We selected Brazil as a possible market because it is Latin Americaââ¬â¢s biggest economic system accounting for 60 % of its GDP and 7th largest economic system in the universe with population of about 200 million. strong domestic demand for American goods and turning in-between category. With GDP growing of about $ 2. 5 trillion in 2011 harmonizing to The White House ( 2012 ) . we believe this market offers first-class growing chances for US companies. Its in-between category and ingestion has grown enormously in past decennary ââ¬â as per Searchlight Process ( 2012 ) 40 million people has joined in-between category between 2003 and 2011 and 20 million are expected to be included by 2014. In add-on. there is a clear penchant for American-produced goods to domestic goods in Brazil ââ¬â they demand trade names for all merchandises from high tech and dress merchandises of Apple and Nike to drinks of Coca Cola. Complex imposts system along with high duty barriers that increase consumer monetary values up to 100 % . and overloaded legal system with drawn-out procedures is another challenge US companies are confronting. CURRENT ECONOMIC. POLITICAL. CULTURAL. SOCIAL AND LEGAL ENVIRONMENT IN BRAZIL Economic Environment. Brazil is Latin Americaââ¬â¢s most influential state and one of the lifting economic powers together with Russia. China and India ( besides known as BRIC nations ) . Almost dual size the European Union ( 8. 5 million square kilometres ) . with rich in militias of natural resources ( Fe ore. manganese. bauxite. Ni. U. gemstones. oil. wood. and aluminium. and 14 % of the worldââ¬â¢s renewable fresh H2O ) . and with over 300 million hectares of agricultural land in favourable clime conditions. Brazil takes a relevant place in planetary market. Harmonizing to Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs ( 2011 ) . Brazilââ¬â¢s consistent growing from 2002 to 2009 when its existent GDP about doubled ( from US $ 724 billion to US $ 1. 5 trillion ) . and economyââ¬â¢s solid public presentation during 2008 fiscal crisis followed by strong recovery ( including 2010 growing of 7. 5 % ) contributed to states passage from a regional to planetary power. Although GDP growing in Brazil slowed down ( 2. 7 % in 2011 vs. 7. 5 % in 2010 ) and harmonizing to the Colitt ( 2012 ) its industrial end product has contracted 3. 4 % from last twelvemonth. the economic system is the worldââ¬â¢s seventh-largest and is expected to lift to fifth within the following several old ages. As noted by Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs ( 2011 ) . during the disposal of former President Lula. billowing exports. economic growing. and societal plans helped raise 10s of 1000000s of Brazilians out of poorness. For the first clip. a bulk of Brazilians are now middle-class. and domestic ingestion has become an of import driver of Brazilian growing. President Dilma Rousseff. who took office in January 2011. has indicated her purpose to go on the former presidentââ¬â¢s economic policies. including sound financial direction. rising prices control. and a floating exchange rate. Colitt ( 2012 ) states that Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff is implementing policies aimed to protect Brazilian industry ââ¬â increasing responsibilities on imported goods like places. fabrics. and electronics. but non seting adequate attempt into repairing local substructure. The fiscal sector is unafraid and provides local houses with a broad scope of fiscal merchandises. yet involvement rates remain among the highest in the universe. Due to high involvement rates investors that have been purchasing Brazilian high-yielding bonds have driven up the Real doing it a really strong. This in bend. has made imports more favourable for US companies and exports more expensive for Brazil. which increased Brazilââ¬â¢s trade shortage to $ 92. 5 billion in 2011. As per The White House ( 2012 ) . U. S. goods exports to Brazil hold more than tripled since 2002. turning from $ 12. 4 billion in 2002 to $ 42. 9 billion in 2011 ( largest classs are machinery. aircraft. and plastics ) . As noted by Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs ( 2011 ) . Brazil has one of the most advanced industrial sectors in Latin America. Accounting for approximately tierce of the GDP. Brazilââ¬â¢s diverse industries include cars and parts. machinery and equipment. fabrics. places. cement. computing machines. aircraft. and consumer durable goodss. Brazil continues to be a major universe provider of trade goods and natural resources. with important operations in timber. Fe ore. Sn. other minerals. and petrochemicals. However. high rising prices ( 7. 3 % in October 2011 ââ¬â above the upper bound of the governmentââ¬â¢s mark of 2. 5 % -6. 5 % ) is a cause of highly high cost of runing the fabrication ( due to high monetary values of energy. natural stuffs and rewards ) . which makes it really hard for Brazilian industries to be competitory in the universe markets. Harmonizing to Alberto Ramos. head Latin America economic expert at GS. fabrication industry is non a competitory advantage of Brazil and it should airt its resources into Fieldss where it is competitory. like services. agriculture and trade goods. Brazil has a diverse and sophisticated services industry. including developed telecommunications. banking. energy. commercialism. and calculating sectors. And most significantly. Brazil is by and large unfastened to and encourages foreign investing -it is the largest receiver of foreign direct investing ( FDI ) in Latin America. and the United States is traditionally the top foreign investor in Brazil ââ¬â United States is a major provider with over 15 % of Brazilââ¬â¢s imports. Political Environment. The current construction of the Brazilian authorities is a Federative democracy with 26 provinces and ferine territory. governed by a presidential system in which the president is both caput of province and caput of authorities ( elections are based on a four-year term ) . Brazil has become independent in September 7. 1822 and promulgated its fundamental law in October 5. 1988. The official linguistic communication of Brazil is Lusitanian and it is most widely used linguistic communication. However you may happen less common linguistic communications like Spanish. German. Italian. and Nipponese. But many Brazilian executives speak English. since many of them have studied abroad in the United States or Europe. Understanding Brazilian civilization. societal environment and concern etiquette is indispensable for successfully making concern in Brazil. Anybody who is making concern with Brazilians should be cognizant of the assorted cultural and structural barriers which might face them. Harmonizing to survey made by University of Illinois ( 2010 ) . constructs of category and position are really strong in Brazil and can find the place a individual may take in the company. which implies that Brazilians allow inequality in their companies. Although communicating between high and low degree employees is frequently informal. everyone is cognizant of societal hierarchies. When carry oning concern it is of import to retrieve that the Brazilian household ( frequently household members working for the same company ) is the foundation of their societal construction and it forms the basic stableness for most Brazilian people. Because of this. Brazilians need to cognize whom they are making concern with before they can efficaciously work together. so inquiries about personââ¬â¢s personal life. household. and company should be expected. Relationships are highly of import to Brazilians. by constructing close forces relationships and edifice trust. foreign business communities and investors will hold a greater opportunity of success in making concern in Brazil. Harmonizing to the information gathered and provided by Kwitessential ( 2010 ) . although the communicating is really informal. some simple regulations of etiquette must be followed. Although concern assignments can be scheduled on the short notice. it is best to schedule them two to three hebdomads in progress and corroborate them in composing since it is non uncommon for assignments to be cancelled or changed at the last minute. It is of import to look on clip for meeting in Sao Paulo. nevertheless. in Rio de Janeiro and other metropoliss it is acceptable to get a few proceedingss tardily for a meeting. During debut it is really of import to be prepared for a batch of handshakings when stating hello and pass or a buss in the cheeks between work forces and adult females. It is of import to observe that since concern in Brazil is hierarchal. so determinations are made by highest ranking individual which may non be ever present ââ¬â senior directors normally attend merely initial meetings ( and anticipate to run into person higher ranked as good ) . Harmonizing to survey in Ethisphere ( 2008 ) . people in US and Brazil differ in ethical orientation and hence. before come ining Brazil we should be cognizant of ethically disputing state of affairss and set up schemes on how to cover with possible corruptness in front of clip. It is of import to understand Brazillian ââ¬Å"Jeitinhio Brasileiroâ⬠manner of believing ââ¬â their inclination to look for options to make something that in our eyes seems improper. which seldom require payoffs and is non considered corruptness. but more like an alternate manner of carry throughing aims when facing excessively stiff regulations. Legal Environment. Brazil is organized as a Federal Republic and its legal system is based on Roman civil codification. which implies that all Torahs that discipline all sorts of state of affairss are antecedently written and made populace. Besides the Federal Constitutions. which consists of 250 articles that outline citizensââ¬â¢ cardinal rights and warrants. the political and administrative organisation of the Federal Republic of Brazil. the single domains of authorization of the Executive. Legislative and Judicial subdivisions. revenue enhancement system and the cardinal labour rights. there chief legal paperss are the Codes: Civil Code. the Tax Code. the Penal Code and the Civil Procedure Code. The Civil Code comprises over 2000 articles modulating affairs such as Duties and Contracts. Businesss and Corporations. Real Estate and related belongings rights. and many others. The Tax Code defines the chief Brazilian revenue enhancement ordinances. which are complemented by many Federal. State and Municipal Torahs. The Penal Code brings the definitions of behaviors considered offenses and the penalties for anyone suiting the several legal descriptions. Finally. the Civil Procedure Code regulates the due procedure of jurisprudence. There is a assortment of legal limitations for foreign companies carry oning concern in Brazil. which pushed many companies towards partnerships with qualified agents or distributers when come ining the Brazilian. First. a foreign company must obtain written permission to run a subdivision in Brazil. therefore joint ventures are normally more popular than independent entities. To avoid possible legal jobs. US Commercial Service ( 2011 ) recommends U. S. companies have a written understanding to assist exporters limit liability for merchandise defects. protect a hallmark. better guarantee payments. and define guarantee footings. and consult with a Brazilian jurisprudence house before subscribing any understanding. Taxes in Brazil are really favourable compared to the U. S. The current corporate income revenue enhancement rate is 15 % regardless of the corporationââ¬â¢s concern but with a 10 % auxiliary revenue enhancement on the part of net net incomes that exceeds R $ 20. 000. 00 per month. The chief stock exchange in Brazil is the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange ( ââ¬Å"Bovespaâ⬠) . ââ¬Å"Securities. such as portions. commercial documents. unsecured bonds. investing fund quotas and derived functions. are traded on Bovespa. â⬠Besides. it is of import to observe that. harmonizing to a concern study conducted by PriceWaterhouse Coopers ( 2009 ) . 70 per centum of houses in Brazil study holding spent at least 3 per centum of grosss on payoffs. Most of these payoffs are to hasten processs. particular intervention or entree to traditional minutess. Although today many companies in Brazil. particularly those that operate internationally. are contending against corruptness ( for ex: companies subscribing Brazilian Pact for Integrity and against Corruption ) . and Federal agents have been effectual in patroling illegal behaviour ( which helped Brazil accomplish ââ¬Å"moderateâ⬠evaluation in 2009 Global Integrity Report ) . corruptness. governmental inefficiency. legal and bureaucratic complications remain existent and really sensitive issues in Brazil that cause a great defeat to the international concern people. INDUSTRY AND COMPETITORS OVERVIEW. Energy Drink industry in Brazil is in origin phase and therefore offers a good growing potency for a company administering new energy drink merchandises like V-Fusion+Energyà ® . Harmonizing to Russell ( 2012 ) . energy drinks was the fastest turning soft drinks class in Brazil in 2010. with 33 per centum growing in value term. Furthermore. Brazil is still a little market for energy drinks with off-trade volume gross revenues of 31 million litres in 2010. which corresponds to 1 % of planetary volume. As Russell ( 2012 ) points out. new merchandise launches with new placements and lower monetary value points. and increased handiness. intend that the market is tipped for growing. Although some wellness concerns have been voiced sing energy drink ingestion. peculiarly when associated with intoxicant. there is no indicant that the class is geting a negative image in Brazil. Russell ( 2012 ) explains. There new tendencies in Brazilââ¬â¢s population proportion and its ingestion forms besides create chance in energy drink industry: in-between category and ingestion has grown enormously in past decennary ââ¬â as per Searchlight Process ( 2012 ) 40 million people has joined in-between category between 2003 and 2011 and 20 million are expected to be included by 2014. As of today. out of 200 million Brazilians over 52 per centum are a portion of in-between category. whose combined monthly household income ranges between US $ 600 ( R $ 1. 000 ) and US $ 2. 400 ( R $ 4. 000 ) . Furthermore. harmonizing to Secretariat of Strategic Affairs of the Presidency of Brazil ( SAE ) in-between category is preponderantly comprised of immature people less than 30 old ages old. with formal employment and disposable income. largely shacking in urban countries and showing strong penchant for American trade names. With this in head. harmonizing to Russel ( 2012 ) . Euromonitor predicts that transnational makers will get down to put more in the state to countervail lethargy in other markets. Brazil could be one of the top five markets worldwide for energy drinks. harmonizing to Euromonitor. Gross saless of energy drinks are predicted to turn in entire volume at 14 % per twelvemonth on norm between 2010 and 2015. The biggest challenge in energy drink industry for US exporter is the monetary value construction due to complex imposts system along with high duty barriers that increase consumer monetary values up to 100 % . As per US Commercial Service ( 2011 ) . in some instances costs are so high that a simple computation may bespeak that US exporterââ¬â¢s border will non let them to vie with local merchandises. Thus. some US companies work on low borders and implement efficient supply concatenation systems aimed to lower operation costs. Red Bull. for illustration. whose drink already holds lead place in Brazilââ¬â¢s energy drink market with 59. 6 per centum volume portion. is constructing a production works in Brazil to take high duties from its monetary value construction and be able to increase its net income borders while take downing retail monetary values and increasing gross revenues volumes. Harmonizing to Euromonitor International ( 2010 ) . despite lifting competition. Red Bull GmbH continues to comfortably take the planetary energy drinks market by both volume and value. Red Bull is produced at a individual installation in Austria and so distributed around the universe via a web of local subordinates and external importers and distributers. Therefore. Red Bull imports its merchandise to Brazil through a distributer and adds high costs of responsibilities. energy and logistics cost to its monetary values. which makes it unaffordable for some low-income consumers in Brazil. Besides. Euromonitor International ( 2010 ) advises that the company aims to capitalise on the current consumer tendency towards ââ¬Å"naturalâ⬠ingredients. and targets an older consumer group that is typically more interested in merchandise ingredients than younger consumers. The addition of this feature transforms the computer functions of an iPhone into something almost universally accessible. How this feature has been (nearly) perfected is a mix of technology and human skill. Siri consists of two separate technologies. There is the voice recognition part, and there is the voice-data-to-speech part. Both are awesomely complex. As quoted by the website of the Human Interface Laboratory at Washington University, voice recognition is the technology by whi ch sounds, words or phrases spoken by humans are converted into electrical signalsâ⬠(Baumann). Then, ââ¬Å"these signals are transformed into coding patterns to which meaning has been assigned (Baumann). To recognize words from among all the sounds that humans make when they produce speech, the voice recognition software must use ââ¬Å"speech unit extraction and concatenationâ⬠(Baumann). To accomplish this ââ¬Å"Sentence and word units which maximize the weighted sum of linguistic likelihood, amount of information, confidence measure, and grammatical likelihood of concatenated units are extracted from the speech recognition results and concatenated for producing summariesâ⬠(Baumann). This translates to a complex amalgam of grammar, vocabulary, and lots of statistics. The voice production part of the system is, if anything, even more magical-seeming. The voice that comes out in the form of Siri actually sounds human, and it is, fundamentally. A live woman, and ma n, or perhaps more than one, recorded hundreds of spoken words and parts of words. She recorded them in different tones and rhythms to create the richest possible range of English speech. These sounds were then used as a sound bank from which to extract individual phonemes, or the smallest and shortest identifiable elements of speech (Anderson).Advertising Looking for essay on programming? Let's see if we can help you! Get your first paper with 15% OFF Learn More As described by Anderson, ââ¬Å"Words and sentences are analyzed, catalogued, and tagged in a big database, a complicated job involving a team of dedicated linguists, as well as proprietary linguistic softwareâ⬠(Anderson). In the next step, a piece of software called a ââ¬Å"text-to-speech engineâ⬠searches for sounds, in real time, to combine with other sounds (Anderson). These are strung together, as beads are on a string, to create novel words and sentences like ââ¬Å"727 South Warno ck Streetâ⬠or ââ¬Å" the Lakers won by 2 pointsâ⬠when users need this information. The inclusion of Siri in an iPhone does more than make forgetting oneââ¬â¢s grocery list a thing of the past. It adds safety when driving, and turns the hand-held device into a mobile business office. A user can generate all sorts of correspondence using the voice recognition function to dictate text. Using the iPhoneââ¬â¢s accessibility settings for ââ¬Ëspeaking textââ¬â¢, a user can listen to almost anything on the screen read aloud. Siri seems to have even inspired a full-length movie Her. The lonely protagonist falls in love with a sweet-voiced operating system that sounds suspiciously like Siri (IMDB). Admittedly, the artificial intelligence, and the relationship depicted are probably a few years away. However, many people are already very dependent on the way that Siri helps them connect to the internet, and to use their iPhones. Siri is also not the only voice in the m arketplace. More and more pieces of equipment (for example, RSS readers) and other venues now are using some form of voice generation or voice recognition. Anderson notes that ââ¬Å"Google, Apple, Microsoft, and even Amazon have all invested heavily in speechâ⬠(Anderson). Voice recognition and generation, whether in the form of Siri or some other software, is a welcome and useful part of usersââ¬â¢ lives now. Anderson, Lessley. They are congenital. Migration of neural cells to brain and melanoblasts to the skin from the neural crest occurs between 3 to 6 months of intrauterine life. A disturbance of this migration results in neurocutaneous syndromes involving ectodermal and neuroectodermal elements (Panda 526). Neurofibromatosis is an autosomal dominant neurogenetic disorder. It can present with spectrum of symptomatology, it affects bone, nervous system, soft tissue and the skin. There are two varieties of neurofibromatosis, NF-1, popularly known as peripheral neurofibromatosis and NF-2, also known as central neurofibromatosis. A third variant is known as segmental neurofibromatosis. However, NF-1 has often central features. Here, the discussion will be limited to NF-1 which can present as plexiform neurofibromatosis.Increased nerve growth stimulating activity is incriminated for the development of neurofibromatosis. The disease has a genetic basis. NF-1 is linked to a large gene on band 17q 11.2. It encodes a protein termed neurofibromin. The protein has been found essential for the negative regulation of Ras, suggesting that neurofibromin acts as a tumor suppressor. Truncations in neurofibromin led to the mutations in most of the NF-1 cases. NF-1 is a disorder with variable phenotypic expression. Some patients may have only cutaneous expression, while others may have life threatening and disfiguring complications. These variations are demonstrated even with in the families. The disease also tends to change and develop with time. Many different mutations with in neurofibromatosis gene have been described. Spontaneous Manimunda mutations are thought to contribute to approximately 30-50% of neurofibromatosis cases. The world wide prevalence of this disease is 1 in 2500 to 3300 live births. All race groups are equally affected and there is no sexual preponderance (Kam and Helm). Most patients with neurofibromatosis present with caf au lait macules during first three years of life. Neurofibromas develop during late adolescence. Few may present with complications like pain caused by neurofibromas, pathological fractures or hypertensive head ache caused by pheochromocytoma. Physical examination may reveal the involvement of different organs and systems. Caf au lait spots are unusual pigmentary patterns, irregularly shaped, evenly pigmented, brown macules. Most individuals with neurofibromatosis have 6 or more spots that are 1.5cm or greater in diameter. In young children, 5 or more caf au lait macules greater than 0.5 cm in diameter are suggestive of neurofibromatosis. 1 or 2 caf au lait macules are encountered even in healthy individuals. Lisch nodules are hamartomas of the iris that appears dome shaped. Slit lamp examination will reveal this and help in confirming the diagnosis of neurofibromatosis. Axillary freckling (as well as inguinal freckling) known as Crowe sign is a useful diagnostic feature in neurofibromatosis. They develop during puberty. Areas of freckling and hypertrichosis occasionally overlay plexiform neurofibromas. Bone involvement can include pseudoarthrosis of tibia, bowing of long bones and orbital defects. Occasionally pulsating exophthalmos is encountered. Retailing Analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 wordsGap, Inc. Retailing Analysis - Essay Example Gapââ¬â¢s trouble in 2001 At the time of Millard Drexter, there were 200 underperforming stores of Gap Incorporated that continuously operate. This specifically decreases the level of profit generation considering that the entire operation of the company continues in a regular manner while generation of revenue came into a downward spiral. Unfortunately, financially speaking Gap Incorporated could not eventually continue to operate in this condition. This is an issue of lack of management perspective and outlook. The company lacks appropriate evaluation system in order to identify its weakest and strongest areas. Unfortunately, this continues to operate and in 2001, the financial performance of Gap Incorporated received substantially small net margin for income. Compared this with the performance of other retailing companies, Gap is far behind and the whole opportunity is lost for the good of its competitors. There is another important view that Gap Incorporated under the manageme nt of Drexter was overlooked. There was lack of market research that could determine customersââ¬â¢ preferences and needs. This eventually is the reason why Gap Incorporated misjudged fashion trends in 2000. It tried to create trendy apparel for young adults but it was not creating greater impact in the market. Customers were ending up choosing other fashion options due to some important reasons including their own style. For instance, it is important to know that American consumers spend less on clothing due to the fact that fashion does nowadays does not only include clothes but other accessories and technological gadgets. For instance, iPods and iPhones are considered part of the fashion trends among American consumers. Normally, niche markets for growth opportunities are the most significant view in apparel retailing industry. However, the market is continuously expanding and there are added segments that need to be clearly understood further. In the United States, size fitti ngs among Americans change over 60 years. In line with this, more data are necessary to be gathered in order to find out the best fittings for Americans. Apparel industry is also competing with vacation, housing and automobile industries. These industries at some point minimize the level of revenue intended for Apparel industry. Thus, with the consumer and market research, Gap Incorporated for instance will be able to identify the right move in order to stimulate needs for its product offerings at the right timing. There is also another important marketing trend that needs to be understood by Gap Incorporated. This is in line with the declining significance of department stores in the US apparel industry. This is how important marketing research is. It tries to help retailers understand consumer behavior and the entire market in general. Understanding consumer behavior means knowing exactly what they prefer over the other offerings available for them. Gapââ¬â¢s spectacular turnar ound in 2003 Gap was able to remarkably have itself applauded for its honesty with respect to improving the working conditions for the manufacturer of its garments in factories. This created a certain level of trust that promotes more than just a promising output. This remarkably opened up the possibility of increasing customer relationship and to ensure trust and loyalty in the end. I know how much you love a mysteryâ⬠, he said, tugging at her hands. Keira looked up at her best friend and seeing how earnest he was, she decided that he was not pulling her leg. She got up from the comfortable hammock in her houseââ¬â¢s patio and headed off after Daryl towards the forest. Before leaving, she called out to her white shepherd dog, Snow, who she knew was aching for a walk since a long time. As she and Daryl trudged along, Keira wondered how she could have forgotten how far the forest was from her home. It certainly has been long since Daryl and I used to play there as kids, she thought. Aloud, she said, ââ¬Å"Do not leave me in suspense, Dar. At least tell me what those markings look like. Is it related to a UFO or what?â⬠. ââ¬Å"I myself do not know for sure. I saw them in the morning when I went to take some leaves for my sisterââ¬â¢s science projectâ⬠, answered Daryl with a look of co nfusion on his face while he fed Snow some biscuits he had brought along. When they finally reached the edge of the forest, Snow suddenly started barking and tugging at the chain. ââ¬Å"Whoa! Easy girlâ⬠, Keira murmured, ââ¬Å"What has got into you?â⬠. Looking around, Keira noticed that it was getting pretty dark outside as they had left for the forest just before night started to fall in. She was just about to suggest coming back the next day, when Snow broke loose of the chain and bounded off into the forest. ââ¬Å"SNOW!â⬠, Keira and Daryl shouted at the same time and ran behind her. Branches and leaves whipped at their hair and faces while Daryl and Keira dashed blindly through the forest. They could hear Snowââ¬â¢s barking in the distant, but no matter how far they ran or how loud they called her name; her barks seemed to be going farther and farther. Daryl started slowing down and whispered, ââ¬Å"Wait wait!â⬠. Keira reluctantly stopped, waiting impat iently for him to catch his breath. The moon was right above their heads by now, allowing Keira to clearly make out the fright on Darylââ¬â¢s face. In fact, the whole forest was lit up by the moonlight, making the tall trees cast eerie shadows everywhere. Keira felt a pang of fright herself; Snowââ¬â¢s barking had stopped by now which meant that Daryl and she were all alone in an unfamiliar area of the forest. Suddenly, she heard Snow yelp in pain and then everything was silent again. Before she could even react, Daryl started muttering, ââ¬Å"No no no no it cannot be. The markings were on the other side of the forestâ⬠, backing away from her. The moon was about to get covered by clouds, but before everything went dark, Keira caught a glimpse of Darylââ¬â¢s eyes- they were wide with fear and staring past her. She quickly turned around and squinted into the dark clearing ahead of her. But before she could make out anything, she heard the rustling of leaves and the cru nching sound of someone heavy walking towards them from the clearing. Daryl let out a startled cry and took off into the forest, away from her. However, Keira was rooted to the spot with fear. All sorts of things went through her mind, especially the recent news reports on television about children going missing and ending up dead. The snap of a twig brought her back to her senses, causing her to whip around and start running like crazy. Keira did not know where her feet were leading her to because the only thing on her mind was to get away from this place or rather, this ââ¬Ëpresenceââ¬â¢. Suddenly, she slipped on the wet floor and losing her balance, fell hard on the ground. While struggling to get up, her hands bumped against something cold and clammy. She jolted with fear, but before she could let out a scream, Darylââ¬â¢ friedaburkhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09152174506934265296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2620415882549829949.post-41326364622793561882019-11-16T11:43:00.001-08:002019-11-16T11:43:08.939-08:00Describe What Is Meant By Market Orientation Marketing EssayDescribe What Is Meant By Market Orientation Marketing Essay Market orientation is a business approaches that focuses on identifying and try to meet the needs or wants of customers.
